The Festival

I Suoni delle Dolomiti are an open-air music festival up in the Trentino mountains. The concerts take place amid rocky crags, alpine pastures and mountain lakes in a sensitive blend of the cultural and the natural. It aims to raise awareness among a wide audience about our mountains and their eloquent natural charms.

I Suoni delle Dolomiti are unique and irreproducible: a common journey among artists and the public in the scenic space of the High Lands, a dialogue between music and nature. In the suspended time of dawn, and that of the efforts required to climb, notes and words are the added value to the sounds of nature.

Past editions

Since 1995, the festival has brought sounds and music from around the world to the heights, with a program and formula that never repeats itself. Each year, music adds new landscapes to its paths and resonates on unexplored slopes, making the experience unique and unrepeatable, experimenting with new dimensions.

Each edition has brought classical music, rock, folk, jazz, world music, ethnic music, crossover, singer-songwriter music, and even opera, literature, and theater performances to the peaks from Latemar to Catinaccio, Marmolada, the Pale di San Martino, and the Brenta Dolomites.

Artists of past editions

Twenty-nine years are enough to have seen artists grow, who, edition after edition, have joined, returned, and chosen to celebrate new phases of their careers here. Sadly, some of these artists have left us prematurely.

Artists such as Antonella Ruggiero, Raphael Gualazzi, Uto Ughi, Niccolò Fabi, Fabio Biondi, Malika Ayane, Paolo Fresu, Goran Bregović, Vinicio Capossela, Ivano Fossati, Nicola Piovani, Fiorella Mannoia, Youssou N’Dour, Jack Savoretti, Daniele Silvestri, Stefano Bollani, Ezio Bosso, Salvatore Accardo, Mario Brunello, Roberto Vecchioni, as well as Alessandro Baricco, Gabriele Vacis, and Marco Paolini have passed through here.

Friends
of the Festival

The artists who have made the festival what it is today with their music, theater, and song have wanted to share special messages with us.

Their words are a tribute to the Dolomites, which have served as their stage and resonated with their art. They are a thank you to all the people who have come to them and walked alongside them, beyond any language and culture. They are personal reflections that continue to inspire their art.

Thus, every note and every word forge a bond and create a bridge between human feelings and the emotions of nature, making it enduring and memorable.

Art direction

The artistic direction has evolved with a sense of continuity, which has preserved its essence and is the secret to its longevity: rather than chasing trends, it has established a style and format that has remained true to itself amidst the Trentino Dolomites.

From its inception in 1995 until 2001, the direction was led by its creator and founder, Paolo Manfrini, an extraordinary visionary and cultural figure, and Mauro Pedron, one of the most esteemed clarinetists on the international scene.

In 1998, their work was enriched by the collaboration of Chiara Bassetti, already responsible for events and culture at Trentino Marketing, who made a crucial contribution to its development in the region.

In 1998, their work was enriched by the collaboration of Chiara Bassetti, already responsible for events and culture at Trentino Marketing, who made a crucial contribution to its development in the region.

In 2002, with Pedron’s departure, Chiara and Paolo continued alone until 2016, consistently consolidating the festival’s presence on the international cultural stage.

In 2017, they were joined by Mario Brunello, one of the world’s leading cellists, who had performed on the festival’s stages since its first edition.

The untimely passing of Paolo in 2018 left the festival in the hands of Chiara and Mario.

Since 2022, Mario Brunello has been the sole art director, with Chiara Bassetti continuing to support him, albeit in an unofficial capacity.

A Manifesto

“I Suoni delle Dolomiti is always unique: although there are some things that all of the events have in common and there is a long, clear thread running through all of the years since the initiative started, it has stayed fresh thanks to a tireless search for new forms of expression. Being there and taking part captures the essence of living in the here and now…”

Paolo Manfrini, the founder of the Festival

Paolo was a builder of dreams and ideas. He had a light-hearted intelligence, Paolo Manfrini. He looked life in the eye. With a gaze that was both cultured and disenchanted. Pop and sophisticated. With the ability to play down everything and take everything seriously. Always poised between a light smile and depth.
