The Sarahbanda: the name is as distinctive as the music that classic French horn player Sarah Willis – who became the first female member of the brass section when she joined the prestigious Berlin Philharmonic and is now the orchestra’s first horn – presents with a group of Cuban musicians who have unbreakable bonds with the sounds, rhythms and colours of one of the most musical islands in the world. As a tireless ambassador for the French horn, Sarah Willis went to Cuba to give a masterclass.
The music and musicians she found there had a huge impact on her and led to the Mozart Y Mambo project, featuring an original blend of the great Austrian composer’s creations and traditional Cuban music. This gave rise to The Sarahbanda, a chamber music version of the project that will see some of the finest exponents of the Cuban scene joining her in the Dolomites for a unique concert.
It will take place at Camp Centener above Madonna di Campiglio, an expanse of pastures that is part of the old Regola di Spinale-Manèz (a mountain community) and looks out over the beautiful Brenta Dolomites.
