The 2024 edition of I Suoni delle Dolomiti will get underway at Malga Tassulla, with a voice that embodies the spirit and poetry of fado, Portugal’s quintessential music genre: the location is in the natural amphitheatre wrapped around the Pian della Nana, in the northernmost and most mysterious part of the Brenta Dolomites, where silence forms the soundtrack for hikers.
Carminho is one of the most talented and innovative fado singers of her generation. She followed in the footsteps of her mother – another famous fado artist – and is very familiar with the tradition, but during her career she has also made forays into Brazilian music, jazz and pop. Entitled Portuguesa, the most recent of her six albums is almost a declaration of her intent to strike a balance between the traditional and the modern in her songs and the music of her homeland. “The genesis of Portuguesa has the same basis as my previous albums: the irresistible fascination of fado, which for me is a language more than a message, a path more than a destination,” states Carminho.
