Faraualla

Four female vocalists explore a range of traditions and cultures, starting with those from their homeland of Puglia, which has been a crossroads for different people for centuries. Puglia can be found in Faraualla’s distinctive “sound”, in the instruments that accompany their performances and even in the name of the group, which was borrowed from a cave on the Murge plateau. After individually studying vocalism and putting their skills into practice in different musical spheres, the singers formed the quartet in Bari in 1995.

They found that they shared an interest in research into use of the voice through polyphony and learning about the vocal expressions of a whole host of ethnic groups and historical periods.
